BRANSON, Mo. – This week, nearly 1,500 high school students from Branson, Forsyth and Hollister high schools were introduced to career pathways and empowered to learn more about how they can contribute to Taney County’s workforce efforts through Taney County Career Days, put on by Taney County Partnership’s OnPoint workforce initiative.
Taney County Career Days, held March 7-9, brought area employers and high school students together for Opportunity Fairs held at each high school as a way for employers to connect with students, providing valuable information about entry level jobs and future career options in seven different industries including Architecture & Construction, Finance, Government & Public Administration, Health Sciences, Hospitality & Tourism, Information Technology and Marketing.
Jonas Arjes, Executive Director of Taney County Partnership, says the student population plays a critical role in workforce development, be it either in seasonal or part-time participation or starting a career path with a local employer right out of high school.TCP
“The Partnership very much appreciates the school districts and local employers partnering with us to broaden the awareness of career opportunities that exist in Taney County,” says Arjes. “We have great school districts developing incredible talent and Taney County Career Days is designed to connect the ‘talent pipeline’ with our employers.”
In addition to the Opportunity Fairs, students also received a boost of self-awareness with a touch of humor from motivational speaker, Kyle Scheele, on how young people can shape the story of their lives and future careers by participating in meaningful work experiences in the community.
Forsyth High School principal, Christian Meier, says this week’s events have made a real impression on its student body.
“Taney County Career Days has already shown to be a positive benefit for our students,” says Meier. “My teachers and I have heard many students make positive comments about Mr. Scheele’s speech and one student who visited the Opportunity Fair has already scheduled an interview with one of the employers. We look forward to working with Taney County Partnership in the future to make this event bigger and better!”
Taney County Partnership looks forward to developing its Career Days program to provide students with access to available jobs and careers in the Tri-Lakes area.
