MEDIA RELEASE

Branson Community Rezoning Open House

The City of Branson invites Branson residents, business owners, investors, developers and other stakeholders to participate in an interactive discussion at the City’s ReZone Open House on June 7, 2016. Held at Branson City Hall, Planning Commissioners and staff will listen to the preferences of community members with regard to potential zoning code updates that are hoped to accommodate a more current and progressive business development environment and overall community.

“This event is an opportunity for community members to share their ideas and recommendations for City leadership to consider as we continue our initiative to update the current zoning codes,” says Joel Hornickel, Director of Planning and Development. “We are operating in a very different business environment today than what it was when the current zoning codes came into play over two decades ago. To promote economic development and attract greater attention from our visitors, it’s necessary to address the codes which are currently limiting new and creative attractions, developments, landscapes and even special events and signage which also attract today’s vacationer. This will be a great opportunity for community members to voice their concerns and provide direction on how the City should regulate zoning matters in the future.”

The rezoning effort is a continuation of the City’s Community Plan 2030 implementation. According to City Administrator Bill Malinen, “This zoning code effort is significant being that the codes in place today have been largely untouched since the mid 1990’s, and because the effort will accomplish at least thirty different action items from the Plan.” Malinen continues, “Last August, we initiated this effort by inviting nearly forty different stakeholders representing seven areas of interest like height, setback, parking, special events, signage and other items the community considers important to the flexibility, innovation and progress of our community as we go about revising codes that will carry Branson forward into the future.”

The Branson ReZone Community Open House will be held over two different sessions on Tuesday, June 7 to better accommodate schedules of individuals desiring to participate. The first session will be held between the hours of 2:00PM and 4:00 PM, and the second session will take place from 5:00-7:00PM at the Branson City Hall on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. The open house is free and open to the public.
